Studio view of (left to right) Calgary 82-O, a freedom fighter in-progress (for the Gwich'in) 12" x 12", and Just Completed And Not Yet Titled (36" x 30"). Unfortunately, this photo isn't picking up the heavily worked surface of the large painting, that's why professional photographers are so handy!
Besides the usual working-class stuff I did this weekend, I also managed to list new items on my etsy shop and work on aceo's. I also edited some images for an in-progress photo-based project that combines questions of contemporary mixed-race native/canadian identity with the genre of souvenir photos and postcards. Such questions are posed as "is touring an Indian thing? Are snowshoes and braids very Canadian? Do Natives climb mountains for fun? Are Canadians brown? ...who's ndn and who's cdn?"
One of the reasons for this project was the family history and long relationship that this particular mixed-blood Deneli from northern Canada has with Banff and the Rocky Mountains of southern Canada. My family holidayed in the mountain parks often, one of my cousins and I even attended Camp Chief Hector (near Canmore) one summer!
This idea has been floating around for a while (see avatar), maybe it will come to something ...
